OK – I’ll start as I mean to go on …
You should have gathered by now that I’m Mark Grady – not the US Professor of Law, or the Touring Car driver from the UK (who I lived in the same county as for a while causing some confusion along the way), but a fairly savvy UK based Internet marketeer who has variously worked for advertising agencies, brands and run his own small marcomms business in the past.
Add to that having been a Civil Servant (and I don’t mean a flunky with good manners) in the English legal system, a draftsman for one of the world’s most famous architects, working in public transport, run an IT support company and even set up my own marketing agency, and you can see I’ve been around the block. Quite a few times.
I’ve seen, heard and done an awful lot of stuff, some of it very good, some of it very bad and most of it in between (mostly shoved towards the “good” end of the scale, I’m pleased to say).
I’ve been a Project Manager since 1996, in that time I’ve used a variety of techniques including SCRUMM, Agile, XP PMI and PRINCE2, even qualifying as a PRINCE2 Practitioner in 2005. I’ve learnt from all of these that there’s no one right way to run any project and the only successful Project Manager is one who can adapt their approach to each project’s needs rapidly. For the last 6 or 7 years, though, I’ve also been involved in UX (User Experience, to the uninitiated), spending the last year or so doing so exclusively whilst running the UX team for a large(ish) mainstream marketing agency.
Up until now I’ve only ever spouted the wisdom and knowledge gathered in all these experiences to those people within earshot. Now, with this website, all you lucky people get the opportunity to ignore it too!
I hope this site is useful, informative and also a little fun too.
Cheers,
Mark Grady
